A most welcome surprise

Remember months ago, when I mentioned that my first Kindle died a terrible death? It stopped registering as a device when connected to a computer, wouldn’t charge, and I couldn’t recover anything from it. This was a terrible blow, because I had so many review copies on it, and had stupidly neglected to back them up.

Fortunately, my mother gave me her old Kindle as a replacement, and I recovered as many things as possible thanks to Amazon’s records. Still, some things were lost forever.

Or so I thought! Today, the old Kindle worked again.

No idea how, or why, or if it’ll die again. But it’s registering when connected to my laptop, it’s charging, all my old books were still there. Maybe it just needed some time in convalescence, I don’t know.

But since I already have a new Kindle, one that’s still working fine, what shall I do with this one, hmm?

It didn’t take me long to come up with the answer. My roommate’s birthday is tomorrow, and she’s an avid reader. I now have a spare Kindle. It’s a match made in heaven!

I backed up all the old files before setting back to factory defaults. Later, I’ll get the review copies onto the Kindle I’m currently using. This has been a day of delightful surprises! I can’t wait for my roommate to get home from work so I can give her a present!

  1. Glad that your kindle recovered! I’ve held off getting a Kindle for a while, but I heard a rumor I’m getting one for a graduation present, should be fun :D Anyway, I just found your blog the other day and I’m really excited! It looks like we have similar taste in books (which is surprisingly difficult for me to find lol!), I’d love for you to check out my sci-fi/fantasy book blog too if you have a chance ;-)
